TRANSFORMER WINDING CONNECTIONS FOR PRACTICAL INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

Abstract - This paper investigates different transformer winding connections on industrial electrical networks. Calculation of electrical parameters such as voltage, current and KVA for various winding types are derived mathematically. “Phase multiplication” is an effective harmonic mitigation technique using phase-shifting transformers. The design of a specified phase-shifting angle and calculation of voltage and current distribution in a polygon winding are proposed. Commonly used transformer connections including delta-delta and wye-wye are discussed in detail. Problems related to these winding connections in industrial distribution systems are addressed, and corresponding solutions are proposed. Transformer grounding is also investigated in this paper.
