What is YEDS?
The Young Engineers Development Subcommittee (YEDS) is a subcommittee of the Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee (PCIC) of the IEEE. The committee was formed in 1996 with its charter as, “Provide and promote PCIC technical conference and personal professional growth opportunity.” The purpose of the YEDS is to focus on the needs of first-time and younger PCIC conference attendees.
Guidance Program for First-Time Attendees:
All first-time attendees are encouraged to participate in a Guidance Program sponsored by YEDS. The purpose of the Guidance Program is to encourage first-time attendees to actively participate in PCIC. Prior to the conference, the Guidance Program will pair more experienced conference attendees with the first-time attendees. This helps first-time attendees to navigate through the PCIC week and get the most benefit from attending the conference. Please indicate on the registration form if you wish to participate in the Guidance Program. All Guidance Program participants will receive a set of suggested guidelines on the program, including suggested meeting times and activities.
PCIC Tutorials:
YEDS would highly recommend that first-time attendees do not miss out on this opportunity. Click here for more information on PCIC Tutorials.
YEDS Sponsored Activities:
Sunday, September 21st YEDS Social - The YEDS Social is an opportunity for first time and younger attendees to get together with their peers and members of the Young Engineers Development Subcommittee to help in answering any questions they might have with respect to PCIC. It is an informal get-together from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Hilton Continental Room. Thermon has been graciously provided YEDS with a designated space during their own welcome social.
Monday, September 22nd PCIC Orientation Breakfast - First time attendees and others interested in learning more about the PCIC are encouraged to join the YEDS for breakfast from 7:00 am to 8:00 am in the Hilton Rookwood Room. This orientation will focus on the history of PCIC, how PCIC functions, how to get involved with PCIC, and enlighten their conference awareness. This breakfast will feature a number of draws of promotional gifts for those present.
Tuesday, September 23rd YEDS Luncheon - First-time and the younger attendees are encouraged to join the YEDS for a free luncheon from 11:45 am to 1:15 pm in the Hilton Salon HI. Vendor participation is welcomed at the PCIC. Etiquette Rules are designed to prevent conflicts of vendor activities with the technical programs. Conduct at the conference must be in accordance with the complete PCIC Rules of Etiquette, which are available at the registration desk or at www.ieee-pcic.org. The following information is a summary of those rules:
Ø Hospitality rooms must be closed during all official conference functions such as technical papers, official luncheons, Monday Night Conference Social, Tuesday afternoon subcommittee meetings, etc.
Ø Commercial demonstrations and commercial literature distribution must be confined to the vendor hospitality suite.
Ø A vendor activity must not host more than 25 registrants (excluding guests and host company personnel) away from the conference hotels from 7:00 am Monday through 5:00 pm Wednesday.
During the conference, IEEE memberships, standards, publications and other related materials are available to IEEE members at significant savings. Many of the most popular items are available during the conference. Attendees may order publications and have them shipped directly to their home or work locations. Credit card orders are welcome

Many professional engineering organizations require continued learning to stay current with changing technology, procedures, practices, standards, and equipment. Most jurisdictions use Professional Development Hours (PDHs) and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to measure and log training and education.
Participation in the PCIC Conference, standards activities, and tutorials may meet part or all of your organizations’ requirements for ongoing training and education.
PCIC provides an opportunity for attendees to log and receive a PDH certificate. Many organizations accept PDH hours for attendance in conference papers, participation in standards activities, authoring and presenting papers, performing technical paper reviews, and technical leadership. It is up to the attendee to determine what conference activities meet their organizations’ registration requirements.
PCIC also offers the opportunity to obtain CEU’s for participation in tutorials. CEU’s are nationally recognized uniform units. These units are based on documented participation, competency testing and are issued through IEEE. CEU’s are offered for participation in tutorials only, as testing is a requirement of the CEU process.
PCIC charges members a $15 fee for processing a PDH certificate. A form for logging all the events that you participate in during the conference will be included with your registration packet. At the end of the conference submit form to PCIC.
PCIC charges members a $25 fee to process a CEU certificate through IEEE. This fee covers the CEU processing costs for all tutorials attended. A CEU certificate will be provided for each tutorial attended.
All PDH and CEU documentation and certificates will be sent via mail and or email after the conference.
Pre-registration is mandatory to obtain these certificates.
PDH and CEU credits are optional and no action is required if these are not required
IEEE is an Authorized Provider of CEUs through The International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET), and has adopted IACET guidelines and criteria for all its continuing professional development programs. Authorized Providers of the IACET must reapply every five years to maintain their "Provider" status. IEEE Educational Activities completed the rigorous application, underwent a site visit, and is delighted to announce that the IACET Commission has once again approved IEEE's Authorized Provider Status.
Currently, thirty states require Professional Development Hours to maintain P.E. licensure, encouraging engineers to seek CEUs for their participation in Continuing Education programs. CEUs readily translate into PDHs (1CEU=10 PDHs). Evidence of participation in these courses also helps engineers meet company training requirements.
